Excerpts from the "Series on Racial Biology"

This is a series of sculptures based upon pictures from the archive of the Swedish Institute of Racial Biology. This instutute was found in the city of Uppsala between
1921 and 1958 and committed to—now controversial—research, so-called racial biology. People were photographed, measured from top to toe, colors of hair and eyes were described and subsequently they were catagorised into different races.
The explicit political intend was to divide the Swedish population into separate groups that preferably should not mix and create offspring. The Swedish 'race' should stay free from 'inferior genes' from unwanted other races. In the aftermath of this thinking, 'substandard' individuals were forcebly steralised up until the late 1960's.

I have used a number of pictures from this archive with the intend to de-catagorize these people by making sculptures with a focus on each persons individuality.
